W3C Works on Web Authentication

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) launched a new standards initiative, led by the Web Authentication Working Group, to provide a more secure and flexible alternative to logging in with a password on the web. The group will work on authentication via cryptographic operations that is based on the member submission of FIDO 2.0 Web APIs from the FIDO Alliance. This initiative complements W3C’s previous work on a web cryptography API and its ongoing work with the Web Application Security Working Group.
