W3C Releases Report on Virtual Reality

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) published a report based on its web and virtual reality (VR) workshop held Oct. 19–20, 2016. Representatives from more than 70 organizations—including Apple, Dolby, Google, Intel, Microsoft, and Mozilla—were in attendance to discuss the VR ecosystem and how it benefits from the open web platform. They identified several features that need better standardization, such as the integration of web content into VR experiences and the support for and optimized transmission of 360-degree videos and audio.
