UNESCO's Creative Cities Network Gains Members

UNESCO announced that 28 cities from 19 countries joined its Creative Cities Network (CCN), which aims to foster cooperation among cities around the world that invest in creativity as a driver for sustainable developments. When cities join the CCN, they commit to collaboration and development on the promotion of creativity, cultural industries, and participation in cultural life; the integration of culture into economic and social development plans; and the sharing of best practices.

Irina Bokova, UNESCO’s director-general, designated these cities as CCN members, bringing the member total to 69. They include Dakar, Senegal; Florianopolis, Brazil; Galway, Ireland; Heidelberg, Germany; Nassau, Bahamas; Turin, Italy; and Suzhou, China.

“The UNESCO Creative Cities Network is a tremendous tool for cooperation, it reflects our commitment to support an amazing creative and innovative potential to broaden the avenues of sustainable development,” says Bokova.
