UNESCO Broadens OA Policy
UNESCO introduced an open access (OA) repository that makes more than 300 online books, reports, and articles in about 12 languages freely available on UNESCO’s website. It operates under a new Creative Commons open licensing system for intergovernmental agencies. Each new UNESCO publication will be released with one of the new Creative Commons licenses and will be integrated into the OA repository. In May 2013, UNESCO became the first United Nations agency to adopt an OA policy for its publications, making them available to millions of worldwide users. The adoption of OA was designed to increase the circulation of UNESCO’s publications and to raise awareness of its work. Hundreds of other UNESCO publications that do not fall under the OA policy will also be made accessible online. Source: UNESCO
