UN Sets 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) announced that after 3-plus years of negotiations, the United Nations (UN) has released its final version of “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” It features 179 targets for economic, environmental, and social development that all countries can use to improve access to information, achieve universal literacy, eradicate poverty, deal with climate change, protect cultural and natural heritage, and realize other important goals.

The agenda provides for a UN Interagency Task Force on Science Technology and Innovation, which will collect information on worldwide IT to spread knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned.
