U.K. Introduces Bill for Personal Data Protection Online

According to the BBC, U.K. citizens “could obtain more control over what happens to personal information under proposals outlined by the government.” Under the terms of the new Data Protection Bill from digital minister Matt Hancock, they can ask for the deletion of personal data (which could now include IP addresses, cookies, etc.), withdraw consent for using personal data, more easily access the information organizations hold on them, and more. Firms would incur significant fines if they don’t protect personal data. “The bill will transfer the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation … into UK law.”
