Thomson Acquires Gardiner-Caldwell
Thomson Corp. (http://www.thomson.com) has announced that it has acquired Gardiner-Caldwell Communications, Ltd., reportedly one of the world's largest independent medical education and communications companies. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. According to the announcement, Gardiner-Caldwell will significantly enhance the medical education franchise within Thomson by enabling it to provide educational programs for companies with products that require international coordination. The acquisition also strengthens the already strong U.S. market presence established by Thomson through Physicians World. Gardiner-Caldwell will become a part of the Scientific & Healthcare operating group within Thomson, and will continue to be run by its current business management group, headed by managing director Steve Angrave.Founded in 1983, Gardiner-Caldwell has an established record of developing and delivering tailored medical education programs to international medical communities. With a client base that includes a broad range of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies spanning many therapeutic categories, Gardiner-Caldwell utilizes an integrated product portfolio of marketing tools and education solutions—including traditional and online communication systems—to increase awareness of diseases and disorders, therapeutic advances, and new drugs.
