The New York Public Library, Thirteen/WNET New York, Fathom Offer Online Course
The New York Public Library, Thirteen/WNET New York, and Fathom have jointly created The New York Public Library's first online course to help job seekers, business owners, and investors obtain critical company information. The course, titled "Prospecting for Business Information," is now available for enrollment at http://www.fathom.com/nypl.Prospecting for Business Information draws upon the expertise of the staff at The New York Public Library's Science, Industry and Business Library to educate users about off-line and online sources of company information and to demonstrate how to conduct company research. Participants in the course gain privileged access to company information for 1 month from popular online databases such as infoUSA's ReferenceUSA, LexisNexis' nexis.com, and Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage. The course is available on an introductory basis for an enrollment fee of $20 and can be accessed anytime over a 1-month period. The New York Public Library (http://www.nypl.org) became a founding member of the Fathom consortium in April 2000. Since that time, it has collaborated with Fathom to create features and free seminars on a variety of subjects. The library recently launched its own access point on the Fathom site for content created by its librarians and curators at http://www.fathom.com/nypl. Thirteen/WNET New York (http://www.thirteen.org) is one of the key program providers for public television and the flagship public broadcaster in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut metro area. Fathom (http://www.fathom.com) was launched in 2000 to be a source for online professional development and lifelong learning.
