The Met Expands Its OA Policy

The Metropolitan Museum of Art adopted a new OA policy that makes all of the museum’s public domain artworks available for free and unrestricted use, remixing, and sharing via the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) designation. It affects more than 375,000 images from 5,000 years, which can now be used for scholarly or commercial purposes. To make them more discoverable, the Met is partnering with Creative Commons (which developed a CC Search for the Met), Wikimedia, Artstor, the Digital Public Library of America, Art Resource, and Pinterest. The Met also has a GitHub repository.

For more information, read the press release.
