The Latest OverDrive News
OverDrive has made a flurry of announcements recently. On June 19, the company launched “three new All Access Collections of simultaneous use ebook subscriptions for libraries. Designed to address the significant growth in reader demand for eBooks within the Libby and Sora apps, libraries will delight patrons with access to a growing catalog of in-demand titles without any holds. These genre-specific collections, priced with a fixed annual fee, will add meaningful inventory of popular titles to libraries and supplement other access models available from OverDrive Marketplace.” On June 21, the next Big Library Read was unveiled: Twilight Territory by Andrew X. Pham. Set in 1942, “Twilight Territory is a lush, panoramic novel of love, war, and resistance as it follows one woman’s struggle for independence and her country’s liberation,” OverDrive notes. On June 26, OverDrive introduced Check Out Your Library, “a movement designed to introduce and reacquaint millions of Americans with the invaluable resources and stories housed within their public libraries. This initiative aims to celebrate and elevate the role of libraries and librarians as community cornerstones across the United States. By promoting local events and programming, it aims to draw new and returning patrons to explore the amazing resources and offerings of their local libraries.” On June 27, announced that OverDrive Marketplace reached the milestone of “more than 1 million ebooks and audiobooks available in the OverDrive Max (ODMAX) access model.” In addition, Sora became “one of six new partners coming soon to Google for Education’s expanded app licensing program, which is ultimately geared at providing educators with a wider range of integrated tools to enrich the teaching and learning experience.”
