Reuters Launches Global Events Database

Reuters (http://www.about.reuters.com) has announced the launch of KALENDS, a future-event information service. KALENDS has created a substantial database of key events from around the world, combining the global news and data-gathering resources of Reuters with additional information from a number of leading independent data suppliers. KALENDS will be developing revenue streams from new markets, in addition to offering an enhanced service for Reuters financial and media clients.

KALENDS will cover six categories of future events (finance, sport, entertainment, society, conferences, and market/public holidays) and provide date, time, and venue, as well as the stories behind the key events from KALENDS' team of journalists.

Initially KALENDS will comprise three products. Desktop will deliver the full KALENDS database to the employees of corporate and financial institutions via a Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes application. Select will deliver tailored financial event information directly to corporate Web sites to enable them to provide enhanced services to their customers. Kalends.com, targeted at consumers, delivers a free, comprehensive range of future-event information, covering sports, entertainment, and general interest.

KALENDS has content agreements with a number of niche event information suppliers including FENS (political dates), TSNN (worldwide conferences information), NetEarnings (U.S. company results), Dynamic Listings (U.K. entertainment events), and Whereonearth (providing geo-location information to pinpoint event locations).
