R.R. Bowker Acquires Simba Information

R.R. Bowker, a provider of bibliographic information in North America, announced that it has acquired Simba Information, Inc., the market intelligence and forecasting unit of PRIMEDIA, Inc. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Bowker, based in New Providence, N.J., is a unit of privately-owned Cambridge Information Group. Simba Information produces newsletters and analytical reports for educational, business/professional, and directory publishers. Based in Stamford, Conn., Simba Information has been publishing for nearly 30 years. Simba is also known for its industry conferences and other educational forums.

According to Bowker president Michael Cairns, Bowker has been acquiring and developing a range of new offerings for publishers, including the transaction services companies, Pubnet and Pubeasy, as well as ONIX file formatting services. Bowker is also introducing a series of new business intelligence tools to assist publishers and other industry professionals with the task of analyzing their businesses and their business environments. The purchase of Simba is the first acquisition Bowker has made to enhance its business intelligence offerings.
