Portico and CHORUS Team Up to Preserve Federally Funded Research

Portico and the Clearinghouse for the Open Research of the United States (CHORUS) banded together to support the preservation requirements in the February 2013 memorandum from the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). The memorandum directs U.S. federal agencies to develop plans for federally funded research to become immediately available to the public or available after an embargo period, and it requires long-term access to the research through proper preservation.

“Making sure that articles reporting on federally funded research are preserved and will always be freely available to the public is a key CHORUS objective,” according to Howard Ratner, the executive director of CHORUS.

Portico agreed to provide CHORUS with the preservation status of articles reporting on federally funded research from publishers that belong to both organizations.
