OverDrive Launches Streaming Video Service Pilot

OverDrive’s streaming video lending service is now in pilot mode at the Los Angeles Public Library. Patrons can borrow videos from the library’s website and view them on any computer, tablet, or mobile device with an internet connection.

The library’s video titles are hosted on the same platform as its ebook, audiobook, and music titles so patrons can browse and sample the entire collection from one place. Videos include award-winning independent films, children’s movies, foreign films, documentaries, comedies, dramas, and educational films.

“Thousands of additional titles in all genres from major studios, including Hollywood blockbusters, will be added on a continual basis,” according to Heather Tunstall, OverDrive’s public relations specialist.

“OverDrive’s Streaming Video service allows us to expand the library’s e-media offerings while dramatically improving convenience and our users’ experience,” says Peggy Murphy, collection services manager at the Los Angeles Public Library.

Several more libraries will join the pilot program this month and the service will expand to the rest of OverDrive’s library network after the pilot phase ends.
