Outside the Lines Encourages Creativity and Innovation in Libraries
Outside the Lines, a celebration of the creativity and innovation happening in libraries, began on Sept. 14 and continues until Sept. 20. More than 135 libraries in the U.S. and Canada agreed to sponsor creative outreach and community engagement events and campaigns that show libraries’ relevance in their communities. The events at the following libraries exemplify Outside the Lines’ mission:- Douglas County Libraries leveraged its partnership with local brewers to create the Great Douglas County Beer Tour, which encourages patrons to print passports from the library website and tour five local breweries to collect stamps. They can return their completed passports to a library branch to receive a commemorative pint glass.
- ImagineIF Libraries aims to advertise its 3D printers and other tools with the Outside the Lines 3D Experience for patrons, who can visit a library branch to make 3D glasses, print 3D designs, and participate in a 3D-image scavenger hunt in the community.
- Hollins University’s Wyndham Robertson Library offers hiking packs—which include blankets, sunscreen, bug spray, and disposable cameras—that students and faculty can check out for the Library Hike. Library staffers placed books along the local trails for hikers to find.
