OCLC Produces White Paper on Econtent in Libraries
OCLC worked with a group of professionals from libraries and content providers to release a white paper, “Success Strategies for Electronic Content Discovery and Access.” It identifies data quality issues in the content supply chain and gives recommendations for improved econtent usage, discovery, and access in libraries. The E-Data Quality Working Group found data quality issues in libraries’ econtent that impede discoverability. In the white paper, suggestions for improving data exchanges among libraries, data suppliers, and service providers include enhancing and synchronizing bibliographic metadata and using consistent data formats. “We recognize that all of us, as participants in the content supply chain, have a shared interest in improving content discovery and access for library users through better quality bibliographic metadata and holdings data. We also recognize that we have a shared responsibility to improve the quality of the data exchanged and to implement more effective data exchange workflows,” says Suzanne Kemperman, OCLC’s director of business development and publisher relations.
