OCLC Completes Acquisition of OCLC PICA Group

OCLC (www.oclc.org) has acquired the remaining shares of OCLC PICA Group B.V., the European-based library and information systems supplier, to become the sole shareholder of the organization. Cooperation between OCLC and Pica began in 1977 when the organizations began sharing data. OCLC acquired 60 percent of the Pica organization in 2000, which led to the formation of OCLC PICA in 2002. Rein van Charldorp will remain in his current position as managing director of OCLC PICA. Earlier this year, OCLC reorganized its management structure to achieve global integration of services.

OCLC is a nonprofit, membership, computer library service and research organization dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world’s information and reducing information costs. OCLC PICA (www.oclcpica.org) has its headquarters in Leiden, the Netherlands, with offices in the U.K., Germany, France, Switzerland, the U.S., and Australia. OCLC PICA incorporates OCLC Europe, PICA (a service-provider in the library infrastructure of the Netherlands), Sisis Informationssysteme (a library-automation company in Germany), and Fretwell-Downing Informatics (an international provider of library automation and resource-sharing solutions).Source: OCLC
