NISO Revises Usage Data Standard; Sets Strategic Plan for the Future
NISO (National Information Standards Organization) released a revised version of its Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI) Protocol, which defines an automated request and response model for harvesting e-resource usage data. This model uses a web services framework that can replace the user-mediated collection of usage data reports. Because it is a generalized protocol, it works with a variety of reports, including COUNTER (Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources). The revised version of the standard allows the optional use of multiple filters and/or report attributes to be included in a SUSHI request and features updated documentation that supports SUSHI implementation, including SUSHI schemas, COUNTER schemas, and sample reports. Additionally, NISO’s architecture committee put out NISO Strategic Directions, a “document that identifies the trends and emerging themes that will direct the future development portfolios of standards and recommended practices,” according to the press release.
