Merriam-Webster, Inc. (http://www.merriam-webster.com)and yourDictionary.com (YDC; http://www.yourdictionary.com)have announced a strategic alliance in which YDC will use Merriam-Webster'sCollegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus as the preferred English-languagereference sources on its site. yourDictionary.com will employ these authoritativereference tools in both its "Quick Lookup" function and "YD Lookup Button,"which allow Web surfers to search for definitions at anytime from anyplaceby simply copying the "YD Lookup Button" to their browser of choice.

According to the announcement,yourDictionary.com provides a comprehensive and authoritative portal forlanguage and language-related products and services, with more than 1,800dictionaries representing more than 230 languages. According to yourDictionary.com,an Advisory Council of Experts, composed of some two dozen of the world'smost accomplished linguists, provide guidance in the development, acquisition,and maintenance of the dictionaries under their purview, and help ensurethe integrity of their respective areas of linguistic specialization.
