Library of Congress Marks 25th Anniversary of 9/11 With a New Interview Collection
The Library of Congress’ American Folklife Center introduced an online collection of nearly 500 firsthand video accounts from 9/11 responders to mark the 25th anniversary of the attack. The interviews were conducted between April 2010 and September 2024. Anyone can search the archive by responder names, hometowns, and occupations. There are five thematic compilations of multiple interviews: The Day America Was Attacked; Rescue, Recovery & Cleanup; Development of Diseases & Loss; Resiliency; and Family Member Perspective.“Taken together, the interviews—which include responders, family members, advocates, and medical personnel—preserve not only the memories of a historic event, but the testimony of witnesses whose lives became part of it continuing history. Making them available through the Library of Congress ensures that their testimony becomes part of the nation’s permanent memory,” the press release notes.
