Knight News Challenge Funds Winning Data-Focused Projects

Knight Foundation announced the 17 winners of the Knight News Challenge, which asked, “How might we make data work for individuals and communities?” The winners will receive a total of $3.2 million: eight will get $237,589 to $470,000 each, and nine (which have early-stage ideas) will get $35,000 each. They will use this funding to explore how data is an essential element of addressing community challenges, such as police misconduct, digital privacy, and finding and using public information.
