Ingenta Adds RSS Feeds to Service

Ingenta, Inc. (http://www.ingenta.com) announced the launch of the second version of the IngentaConnect beta Web site (http://www.ingentaconnect.com), which includes RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) feeds as a feature of the Ingenta service. The company says it is one of the first sites of its kind to implement RSS for e-journal alerting. Ingenta plans to extend the types of RSS feeds offered from IngentaConnect as the site develops.

RSS is a Web syndication protocol that allows publishing of "headlines" from any Web site in a machine-readable XML-based format. Users will now be able to sign up for feeds of new issues loaded for journals they are interested in, showing the latest issue numbers and dates with a link to the full tables of contents on ingentaconnect.com.

A new release of the beta site will launch every month in the lead-up to its go-live date in the fall. The third beta due to launch in late July will introduce e-commerce and pay-per-view features. We reported on the first launch in a NewsBreak in early June: http://newsbreaks.infotoday.com/nbreader.asp?ArticleID=16435.
