IFLA Asks for Responses to EU Ancillary Copyright Consultation
Stephen Wyber, the policy and research officer for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), sent a message to the IFLA community to alert European members to the European Union (EU) consultation on “the role of publishers in the copyright value chain,” aka ancillary copyright. He asks for responses to a survey about “a number of recurring demands from certain lobbies in the EU,” including the ideas that news aggregators should pay publishers for the right to link to stories, publishers should get a share of the revenue from levies for copying, and rightsholders should be compensated when images feature artwork that is permanently sited in public spaces.“We should take this opportunity to express our concerns regarding any new provisions in EU law which could restrict access to knowledge,” he writes.
