H.W. Wilson Debuts Retrospective Index of Essays
The H.W. Wilson Co. (www.hwwilson.com) announced Essay and General Literature Index Retrospective: 1900–1984, a new resource that cites tens of thousands of essays from anthologies and other sources published dating back to 1900. This database is designed to unlock a wealth of information and opinion that might otherwise be inaccessible—unsung tracts hidden away in decades of larger works. Libraries can make their collections more valuable to researchers in a wide array of fields, breathing new life into past investment in anthologies.Searching by author, subject, publication, year, and more makes this a versatile resource for finding works by iconic literary figures, social critics, politicians, celebrities, and others, on subjects in the arts, history, literature, philosophy, religion, economics, education, law, politics, psychology, sociology, and science, with particular emphasis on the humanities and social sciences. The database cites more than 249,000 essays from single and multi-author collections published in the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain, plus selected annuals and serials. Each citation links to a list of other works in the collection, others by the author, and others on the subject, as well as to an entry for the source collection. WilsonWeb tools aid users in finding cited essays on the shelves: A library holdings indicator (linked to the library’s OPAC) lets users know where collections are located in the library, and WilsonLink SFX-Powered technology links to the full text of essays on any of the library’s other OpenURL-compliant databases. Free 30-day trials of Essay and General Literature Index Retrospective are available. Source: H. W. Wilson
