H.W. Wilson Announces Play Index 2003–2007
H.W. Wilson (www.hwwilson.com) announced an all-new edition of Play Index (in print and online), its resource for finding plays by subject, style, setting, staff, and production requirements, as well as by title and author. Play Index 2003–2007 highlights nearly 3,000 plays published individually or in collections in the 5-year span, from classic drama to radio and television plays to puppet performances. All are written in (or have been translated into) English. The resource is designed to be used by teachers, students, drama coaches, theater groups, directors, performers, playwrights, and other researchers. The main author entry provides details about the play: a summary of the plot, the number of acts and scenes, the size of the cast, genders of cast members, number of sets, and dancing or music requirements, plus all the bibliographic data needed to locate the script. Entries for some 60 monologues offer plays useful for auditions. Plays suitable for children or young adults are indicated with a "c" or "y" throughout the volume. Wilson offers a database version of Play Index (www.hwwilson.com/databases/playindex_e.htm), with entries for more than 31,500 plays published individually or in collections dating from 1949 to the present.
