EDGAR Online to Offer Reports in XBRL
EDGAR Online, Inc. (http://www.edgar-online.com) announced that it will be one of the first companies to offer access to comprehensive corporate financial reports in eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). This service will make it easy for users to import financials directly into their own software for comparison and analysis.EDGAR Online participated in an effort led by the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts (AICPA) and the XBRL-US Consortium to develop description and classification taxonomies that assign a universal code to each line item in publicly filed financial statements. These taxonomies will be utilized in EDGAR Online's upcoming product enhancements. Currently, customers of EDGAR Online can access summary data in XBRL, but the new taxonomies will allow EDGAR Online to offer complete company financials in XBRL for all U.S. public companies. EDGAR Online will release the series of product enhancements over the course of the next 6 months. The announcement was made in conjunction with the release of the U.S. Financial Reporting Taxonomy Framework, a family of XBRL taxonomies that is compliant with XBRL International's XBRL Specification 2.1. The taxonomies are available on the Web at http://www.xbrl.org/us/usfrtf/2004-08-15/TaxonomyFrameworkOverview.htm. Source: EDGAR Online
