EBSCO Publishing Acquires Alt-HealthWatch
Alt-HealthWatch, originally created by SoftLine Information, Inc., and since sold to ccplanet.com, Inc., has been purchased by EBSCO Publishing (http://www.epnet.com). With this recent acquisition, EBSCO has now added 10 full-text medical databases this year to its list of available databases, and further demonstrates its commitment to serving medical and hospital libraries around the world. Other databases made available this year include three editions of the Biomedical Reference Collection (Comprehensive, Expanded, and Basic editions), three editions of the Nursing & Allied Health Collection (Comprehensive, Expanded, and Basic editions), Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection, Sociological Collection, and PsycARTICLES. Alt-HealthWatch has been available on EBSCO for over a year.According to the announcement, EBSCO provides a powerful, intuitive interface for MEDLINE, CINAHL, and other important bibliographic collections. Furthermore, EBSCOhost facilitates the location of full text by providing seamless links from citations in these bibliographic databases to the corresponding full text in other EBSCOhost databases, e-journals, and more. The recent acquisition of Alt-HealthWatch is a reinforcement of EBSCO's commitment to offering the most inclusive and diverse collection of medical databases. Alt-HealthWatch focuses on the many perspectives of complementary, holistic, and integrated approaches to healthcare and wellness. It offers libraries full-text articles from more than 170 international peer-reviewed and professional journals, magazines, reports, proceedings, association and consumer newsletters (most from 1990 to the present), plus hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research, and book excerpts. In addition to standard bibliographic citations, the database indexes each article by more than 225 subject categories, 16 article types, and 11 publication types. Source: EBSCO Publishing
