Cuadra Announces STAR Web Version 5.0

Cuadra Associates, Inc. (http://www.cuadra.com), a Los Angeles-based provider of knowledge management software products, announced the new version 5.0 of STAR Web, its browser-based interface, which now includes full application support for data entry and global tasks. Cuadra showed it to customers last month at the STAR Users Meeting and will announce the new version today (Nov. 15) at the Internet Librarian conference in Monterey, Calif. (http://www.infotoday.com/il2004). According to the company, the new release will be used as the platform for a new generation of ready-to-use solutions to be issued in 2005.

The new features allow form designs that provide for all of the many standard data types and validation rules supported in STAR. They include support for repeating fields (and subfields), with a design that facilitates the insertion of as many new instances (e.g., of authors/names or subjects) as are needed. Among the standard STAR validation rules supported in this interface are those that are applied locally, as for dates, and those that require interaction with the STAR host system, for validating input against an authority file and/or the dynamic generation of authority data in a list box or separate pop-up "picklist" display. The new features also allow for the submission of global operations and maintenance of related sets of data collections.
