Brill Adopts OA Model for Books
Brill, a Netherlands-based publisher in the humanities, social sciences, international law, and biology fields, is now publishing open access (OA) books. The OA program includes hybrid journals, fully OA journals, and edited books and monographs. Using Brill Open, authors can opt in to OA in exchange for a Publication Charge, which ranges from $1,700 for a journal article to $6,550 for a book. The website notes that Brill Open “supports the gradual conversion to the Open Access model.” Brill uses a Creative Commons license for the Brill Online Books and Journals platform that includes the full text of more than 175,000 chapters and articles. Authors can keep the copyright on their work, but they are required to pay the Publication Charge to have their published OA book or journal listed on Brill Online. Source: Brill
