Bloomsbury Buys the Academic Publishing Business of Rowman & Littlefield
Bloomsbury “completed the asset purchase of the academic imprints and associated titles of Rowman & Littlefield” in its “biggest acquisition … to date” in order to strengthen its “academic and digital [resource publishing] presence in North America,” especially its publishing in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.Jed Lyons, president and CEO of Rowman & Littlefield, says, “2024 marks the 75th anniversary of Rowman & Littlefield. When [Bloomsbury CEO] Nigel Newton approached me and described his vision for how our academic businesses would complement Bloomsbury’s academic business, it soon became clear that there is a compelling fit. The superb publishing team that runs the Rowman & Littlefield’s academic business will find a welcoming home at Bloomsbury and our authors will benefit from the global reach of Bloomsbury’s sales and marketing efforts.” For more information, read the press release.
