Barnes & Noble Acquires Its Third Independent Bookstore Business

Jim Milliot writes the following in “B&N Agrees to Buy Joseph-Beth Booksellers” for Publishers Weekly:

Barnes & Noble has reached a deal to buy both locations of Joseph-Beth Booksellers. Under the agreement, B&N is buying the two bookstores and bistros located at The Mall at Lexington Green in Lexington, Ky., and Rookwood Pavilion in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Joseph-Beth is the third independent bookstore business that B&N has acquired since James Daunt took over as CEO. The chain bought Denver’s Tattered Cover, which had previously filed for bankruptcy, in 2024. The following year, B&N bought the Bay Area’s Books Inc., which at the beginning of the year had filed for volunteering reorganization.
