AskJeeves to Sell Enterprise Software Division
Ask Jeeves, Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement for Kanisa, Inc. to acquire Jeeves Solutions, the enterprise software division of Ask Jeeves. Jeeves Solutions' search technology and analytics will enable Kanisa to offer a larger, more robust suite of customer service solutions to corporate customers worldwide. With the sale, Ask Jeeves said it will focus solely on its growing Web-wide search business.Kanisa will acquire substantially all assets of Jeeves Solutions including the JeevesOne technology and its approximately 40 corporate customer accounts. Some Jeeves Solutions customers include Nike, Cincinnati Bell, Novartis, and Ford. Kanisa will pay a purchase price of $4.25 million. The sale is expected to close in July 2003. Companies using Kanisa software include Microsoft, Apple Computer, eBay, Hewlett Packard, Network Associates, and Northrop Grumman. Kanisa has worldwide headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. Skip Battle, CEO of Ask Jeeves, said, "Jeeves Solutions' customers and employees will greatly benefit from Kanisa's exclusive focus on enterprise software, leading customer service applications, and seasoned management team." Ask Jeeves deploys its search technologies on Ask Jeeves (Ask.com and Ask.co.uk), Teoma.com, and Ask Jeeves for Kids (AJKids.com), and syndicates its search technology and advertising units to a network of affiliate partners.
