Adobe Systems Unveils FrameMaker 7.0
Adobe Systems, Inc. has announced the release of Adobe FrameMaker 7.0, the latest version of its single-source, multichannel publishing software. Adobe FrameMaker 7.0 now offers full XML support for authoring and publishing, with an easy-to-use word processing interface that can be utilized in corporate enterprises by nontechnical users. FrameMaker 7.0 now allows users to quickly and efficiently publish information to multiple channels, including XML, HTML, Adobe PDF, print, and SGML. It also provides output to the Palm Reader and Microsoft Reader.According to the announcement, FrameMaker 7.0 also offers high-end publishing functionality tailored to the creation and management of long, complex documents and provides for SVG integration for vector/interactive Web graphics. Other key features are WYSIWYG-based context-sensitive editing and authoring for structured documents and automated generation and updating of indexes, tables of contents, cross references, and hyperlinks. Target customers for FrameMaker 7.0 include corporate knowledge workers, information publishers, technical publishing departments (that produce manuals, user guides, and reference documentation), and commercial publishers. The product is deployable on the desktop or on the server. Adobe FrameMaker 7.0 and FrameMaker Server 7.0 will be available in the second quarter of this year to customers in the U.S., Europe, and Canada through Adobe Authorized Resellers and the Adobe Store at http://www.adobe.com. The estimated street price for FrameMaker 7.0 desktop version will be $799 for the full product with a special 90-day upgrade offer of $209 ($349 thereafter). The estimated street price for FrameMaker Server 7.0 will be $7,999.
