1science Debuts Large-Scale OA Study

1science published the first results of the largest existing study on the impact of more than 3 million OA papers from diverse sources. After studying nearly 35 million citations, it finds that OA papers have a 50% greater citation advantage than traditionally published papers in subscription-based journals (meaning these papers could lose their relevance for researchers and governments). However, OA papers “still [suffer] from the effect of embargoes enforced by traditional publishers who maintain that they require that delay to keep the subscription model alive,” according to the press release.
