Companies impacted by the European Union’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulations now have a valuable tool in R2 (REACH Registrations) from Expert Publishing (ExPub), a division of EBSCO Publishing. R2 provides integrated access to the Official ECHA REACH Registration Database leveraging the EXPERTIndex to provide the most relevant search results.
R2 contains key information submitted by companies on more than 7,600 unique substances including CAS number and other identifiers, composition, classification and labeling, physical/chemical properties, toxicological properties, and eco-toxicological properties. R2 will be updated as the ECHA updates it website.
ExPub’s proprietary search engine allows users to simultaneously search the REACH Registrations and millions of other documents found in more than 140 collections including the Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB), the Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances (RTECS), the Merck Index, the complete set of the IARC Monographs, the 12th Report on Carcinogens, the EPA’s Integrated Risk Information Systems, and MSDS from more than 27,000 different vendors. And with its 2.4 million terms and synonyms, the EXPERTIndex produces search results that are 100% relevant.
ExPub is the premier provider of up-to-date, decision-support chemical information for the global environmental health and safety community. Complete ReaxysFile Now Available on STN
FIZ Karlsruhe announced that the complete ReaxysFile is now available on STN. ReaxysFile now contains the full content from Reaxys, a leading source for chemical substance and reaction data produced by Elsevier.
ReaxysFile is a major factual database containing fully searchable chemical structures and reactions, associated with a depth of chemical and physical properties—all experimentally measured. With historical data dating from 1771 and the most relevant current publications (journals and patents) in organic, inorganic, and organometallic chemistry, ReaxysFile forms a valuable part of STN for information professionals and patent experts looking either for pinpoint accuracy concerning a particular substance or while searching for broader research questions.
Information on several million substances has been added, including inorganic substances and substances derived from patents, bringing the database to the same content level as in Reaxys. This will immediately increase information professionals’ and patent experts’ efficiency when investigating new research opportunities, performing freedom-to-operate searches or looking for reliable chemical substance information. ReaxysFile can also be used to retrieve relevant information for meeting regulatory requirements on chemicals (e.g., REACH).
“We are pleased to see the collaboration with Elsevier further extended by this successful update to the ReaxysFile,” says Rainer Stuike-Prill, vice president marketing and sales at FIZ Karlsruhe. “Reaxys is widely acknowledged as a valuable source for a detailed view of chemistry data. With the addition of the full version of ReaxysFile to STN users benefit from more comprehensive and precise search results.”

SAGE Acquires Royal Society of Medicine Journals Portfolio
Academic publisher SAGE announced an agreement with the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) to acquire its journal program. With immediate effect, 28 titles formerly published by RSM Press will be published by SAGE.
The Royal Society of Medicine is one of the largest providers of continuing medical education in the U.K., reaching medical professionals and students from around the world. As part of this agreement, SAGE will begin publishing partnerships with some of the world’s most prestigious medical organizations including the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine. SAGE will also publish the RSM’s own journals including its flagship title, the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, one of the most widely read and enjoyed general medical periodicals in the world; JRSM has provided insights into a broad spectrum of issues for more than 200 years.
“After a decade of growth across clinical medicine, this agreement marks SAGE out as a major medical publisher,” said Ziyad Marar, global publishing director at SAGE. “The confidence of the Royal Society of Medicine in entrusting SAGE with the development of their own journals as well as several society relationships recognizes SAGE’s strengths as a collaborative publishing partner, one that is aligned with the goals of scholarship and education, and able to combine the reach of a larger publisher with the care and personal approach of a smaller press.”
The RSM portfolio publishes articles on primary research and clinical practice across a broad range of disciplines, including infectious disease, health practice, women’s health, and vascular medicine. SAGE will embark upon a program of digitizing all archives of the journals wherever possible back to Volume 1, Issue 1. Many of these digital backfiles will be made available for the first time.

Thomson Reuters Incorporates ORCID Identifiers
The IP & Science business of Thomson Reuters announced its initiative to incorporate ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) identifiers into its scientific and scholarly research offerings, ensuring that users of resources such as ResearcherID and ScholarOne Manuscripts are able to incorporate their unique IDs into the attribution and publishing process. The system provides a central registry of researchers across disciplines and geographic boundaries, connecting researchers to their research.
Thomson Reuters is a founding member of the ORCID initiative, having worked closely with the organization since inception in 2009 to develop and define the principles for this program. Given its contribution to the genesis of ORCID, Thomson Reuters is committed to ensuring its flagship solutions incorporate ORCID technology and make it easily accessible.
Thomson Reuters is embedding ORCID identifiers across its scientific and scholarly research ecosystem, providing integrated continuity for the use and access of this information. Researchers can register for, or upload, their ORCID identifier into ResearcherID; that information will then be accessible in an EndNote bibliography, and eventually be part of the formatted, cited reference.
The ORCID identifier will also appear in ScholarOne Manuscripts and can be searched and reported on as part of the peer-review process (journals can collect ORCID identifiers for authors). Published articles will be indexed in the Web of Knowledge, with links to ORCID profile data that are searchable within the interface. The ecosystem is complete by enabling administrators, funders, and policymakers to view groups of ORCIDs to measure and benchmark against others in InCites.
ORCID, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to solving the name ambiguity problem in scholarly research and brings together the leaders of the most influential universities, funding organizations, societies, publishers, and corporations from around the globe.
