Dow Jones Combines Business Units Into Single Consulting Service
Dow Jones & Co. introduced new capabilities offered by its services division, Dow Jones Client Solutions (http://solutions.dowjones.com/djcs/index.asp), which focuses on the seamless integration of job-specific information into the daily workflow of corporate, media, and financial clients. Dow Jones Client Solutions combines the technology, content, and expertise of three former business units—Factiva Consulting Services, Factiva Taxonomy Services, and MarketWatch Licensing Services—into one consulting-services practice.

- Targeted News Delivery: Dow Jones combines its content with Factiva content, blogs, Web content, multimedia, and a company’s internal information and distributes it according to a company’s communication objectives.
- Taxonomy Solutions: Focused on bringing precision to enterprise search, Synaptica, a taxonomy and metadata management tool from Dow Jones, offers a centralized repository for semantic management.
- Dow Jones Product Integration: Whether customers need to enhance their CRM, marketing intelligence portal, or intranet for financial advisors, Dow Jones offers a suite of offerings that can be seamlessly integrated where users need information most.
- Rollout & Adoption: Dow Jones rollout and adoption services provide the expertise to plan, manage, and execute a customized launch of Dow Jones standard products and/or custom solutions to end users, which means quicker ramp up and adoption and a quicker return on investment.
SirsiDynix Symphony 3.2 Is Now Available
SirsiDynix (www.sirsidynix.com) announced the general availability of SirsiDynix Symphony 3.2, its new integrated library system (formerly code-named Rome)—derived from the best of SirsiDynix Horizon 8/Corinthian and Unicorn GL3. The company said that the open, evolutionary, and customizable integrated library system has been delivered on schedule (before the end of 2007) and is already in successful production for two sites.
SirsiDynix Symphony 3.2 incorporates open, industry-standard technologies, offering the library community an impressive list of features and capabilities. These include an open n-tier architecture, software-as-a-service (SaaS) options, powerful "user experience" portal and search solutions, comprehensive integrated library management and productivity solutions, Java-based staff clients for all modules, fully documented application programming interfaces (APIs) that support customizability and integrability, Unicode support, advanced business intelligence and reporting tools, support for SIP2 and NCIP, and embedded and full Oracle database support.
SirsiDynix Symphony also includes new features, functions, and modules, including expanded capabilities for group/family/proxy circulation, new credit structure within patron accounts, support for mail delivery of books, support for the Web Reporter advanced reporting tool (scheduled for 1Q 2008), new portal capabilities, and Web-based staff clients. Outsell Reports on Social Media Market Intelligence
Outsell, Inc. (www.outsellinc.com), a syndicated research and advisory firm for the information industry, has released a new report estimating the worldwide market for Social Media Market Intelligence (SM-MI) at more than $80 million in 2007. The companies in this segment provide turnkey systems that harvest social media content from blogs, message boards, websites, social networks, product review sites, consumer review sites, and online public forums.
According to Outsell, the top players represent approximately 80% of the market with Nielsen Online (BuzzMetrics) ranked first, followed by TNS Media Intelligence/Cymfony, Biz360, Factiva, LexisNexis, Umbria, and Collective Intellect. In addition, Outsell expects companies like Radian6, Andiamo Systems, and CARMA to add depth to the market with lower-priced automated offerings.
Outsell said that social media (also known as consumer-generated media and user-generated content) is influencing the startup of new search, tracking, software, and analysis products and having an impact on traditional product areas such as media monitoring, PR, and media management software.
