Copyright Clearance Center Announces Annual License for Academia
Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC; www.copyright.com) announced the launch of the Annual Copyright License for academic institutions, a single license that provides faculty and staff with preapproved permissions to use content in course management systems, paper and electronic course packs, electronic library reserves, research collaboration, and more. By preapproving the use of content, the Annual Copyright License is designed to save library staff valuable time and reduce the costs associated with tracking and managing high volumes of individual copyright permission requests.
Developed in cooperation with several colleges and universities, including charter program member Middlebury College, the Annual Copyright License provides comprehensive, "check-and-go" permission to use content from books, scholarly journals, news and trade magazines, and newspapers. Nearly 200 publishers—including Springer, SAGE Publications, Nature Publishing, John Wiley & Sons, The New York Times, and Princeton University Press—have signed on to the new program, and more publishers are joining each week. The license covers single- and multi-campus institutions, including international campuses of U.S.-based colleges and universities.Source: Copyright Clearance Center, Inc.
Vivísimo Velocity Connector Unifies Desktop and Enterprise Results
Vivísimo, Inc. (www.vivisimo.com) announced the expansion of its Velocity platform with support for Windows Search technologies, including the integrated desktop search capabilities in Windows Vista and Windows Desktop Search 3.01 for Windows XP. Users on the Velocity enterprise search platform can now seamlessly access and manipulate search results across Windows desktop environments as well as multiple applications and databases.
Traditionally, desktop search results from Windows Desktop Search 3.01 for Windows XP or Windows Vista are viewed through a Windows interface, such as the desk bar, start menu, or Explorer. Now, by extending the underlying Windows Search platform, customers can see aggregated search results from the desktop alongside those results from other enterprise applications and data sources searched by Velocity. Through Velocity, search results are displayed in neatly organized topical categories, or clusters, for enhanced navigation. The new Vivísimo Velocity application connector for the Windows Search platform provides a single search box for corporate employees to experience a unified search solution that connects to their desktops, email, enterprise-wide applications, and third-party licensed content.Source: Vivísimo, Inc.
