Dow Jones Partners with PodZinger for Multimedia Content
Dow Jones & Co. (www.dj.com) has announced a partnership with PodZinger (www.podzinger.com), a multimedia platform that allows users to find audio and video content using keyword searches and to integrate multimedia content into Factiva.com and Factiva iWorks. Beginning in August 2007, Factiva (www.factiva.com) customers can easily access relevant video and audio information including business news, CEO interviews, executive speeches, shareholders meetings, product reviews, and other meaningful business content.
Factiva's multimedia offering leverages PodZinger's exclusive speech-to-text and natural language processing technologies, designed to give users highly relevant results around their searches. It also uses the patented Factiva Intelligent Indexing and displays results in charts and graphs so that users can immediately extract value and understanding from their searches. According to a 2006 study by PodZinger, viewers listen to or watch only 15 percent of an entire audio or video file. Dow Jones is combining the strengths of both Factiva and PodZinger to deliver a unique and powerful multimedia search experience that enables users to surface short, targeted clips around specific search terms where they can subsequently view only relevant sections or the entire episode.
The Factiva multimedia content offering includes the following:
- Continuously updating content from more than 4,000 news and business sources (or series) and more than 300,000 individual episodes
- 90-day content archive from a business news and information collection that includes The Wall Street Journal, NPR, CNN, BBC Radio, and more
- Language interfaces in English, Spanish, French, German, and Russian

ProQuest and Scopus Announce Partnership
ProQuest (www.proquest.com) and Elsevier's Scopus (www.info.scopus.com) announced a reciprocal searching and linking partnership that will expand the research capabilities of mutual customers of CSA Illumina and Scopus. This integration will enable users of CSA Illumina to find 4,500 Scopus titles in natural sciences, business, and economics directly integrated in their search results. In turn, Scopus users will be able to view records from selected ProQuest databases in social sciences from the CSA Illumina platform. This reciprocal linking capability is available at no additional charge to customers who have licensed the selected content from both CSA Illumina and Scopus. Mutual customers will receive a notification when the linking agreement is activated at their institution.
CSA Illumina from ProQuest is a digital platform for bibliographic and full-text searching of more than 100 databases covering social sciences. Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of research literature and quality Web sources with smart tools to track, analyze, and visualize research, covering more than 15,000 titles from more than 4,000 international publishers.
Mutual users will be able to cross-search the comprehensive coverage of both products in either single interface without any extra effort. Additional search results will be seamlessly integrated in the results set with a direct link to the original record on the native product and to the full text, if available.
Key bibliographic records from Scopus in natural sciences, business, and economics will be made available on the CSA Illumina platform. In turn, high-quality titles in social sciences on the CSA Illumina platform, such as CSA Sociological Abstracts and Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts, will be made available on Scopus.
Note: ProQuest CSA, the new company formed from the February 2007 merger of ProQuest Information and Learning and CSA, announced that it will now operate under the name ProQuest, a decision guided by customer research. CSA will continue to be used in product names, such as CSA Illumina, CSA Illustrata, and others.

Hoover’s Announces First-Phase Integration with First Research
Hoover's, Inc. (www.hoovers.com), a D&B company, announced the first phase of integration between Hoover's and First Research (www.firstresearch.com). D&B acquired industry intelligence provider First Research in March 2007 and folded the company under Hoover's to better meet the needs for commercial insight among sales and marketing professionals. The company said that it is the first step along the path to full integration. This phase also serves as the basis for a "test and learn" approach to broader content integration.
Here's how it works for now—true integration will be coming later, including a tricky mapping of Hoover's industry codes to the First Research industries. First Research customers now have quick access to Hoover's company data via a Hoover's search box on the First Research site. In turn, Hoover's subscribers have free access to a subset of First Research's in-depth Industry Profiles. Additionally, those who purchase a bundled subscription can now access both Hoover's and First Research content directly from within Hoover's.
