SLAís Click University Offers Free ebrary Titles to Members

Click University (www.clickuniversity.com), the members-only online learning center of SLA (www.sla.org), announced the electronic availability of nearly 1,000 business titles through ebrary. SLA members can now have free unrestricted access to books and resources about leadership and management. The ebrary Leadership and Management Collection covers a wide range of topics to enhance the ability of professionals to make important business decisions. Key subject areas covered by the content include leadership, entrepreneurship, strategic planning, management, organizational behavior, personnel management, project management, and risk management.

Click U, which SLA launched in June 2005, is dedicated to meeting the changing educational needs of information professionals working in corporate and organizational settings. Click U's features and courses are constantly evolving to ensure that they reflect the competency demands of today's information environment. The ebrary collection offers another option for busy information professionals looking to expand their skill sets whenever, wherever, and however they wish.

As a special offer, a discount is also available to organizations that employ SLA members. These organizations are able to purchase any subject database within the library for an introductory flat rate of $1,000. Members can save more by subscribing to any three ebrary collections for $2,500.

LexisNexis, Dow Jones Alliance Brings Current News to Law Firms

LexisNexis (www.lexisnexis.com) announced an alliance with Dow Jones & Co. (www.dowjones.com) to provide current news to law firms. LexisNexis Continuous Alerts, powered by Factiva from Dow Jones, offers legal professionals continuously updated news, such as mergers and acquisitions, Initial Public Offerings, national litigation, and other vital information.

Continuous Alerts is the result of a development alliance between LexisNexis and Dow Jones to create a custom application for the legal market. Users link to the application from a new Continuous Alerts subtab on the alert tab of lexis.com. From there, they are taken to a co-branded site to set up and manage their searches. Once the search is created, new results will be emailed to users within minutes of the results being published on Dow Jones' Factiva product.

Other benefits of the service include the following:

  • BlackBerry compatibility so attorneys can receive alerts on the move
  • Access to thousands of sources, including The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires
  • Filtering abilities to avoid receiving recurring or republished information
  • High, medium, and low relevancy settings can be established by the user

Prenax Acquires Basch Subscriptions

Prenax, Inc. (www.prenax.com), a wholly owned subsidiary of the global subscription agency Prenax Global, has acquired the shares of Basch Subscriptions, Inc. They will continue as separate entities. There will be no merger of brands, and customer service and systems will continue as before. N. Bernard "Buzzy" Basch will continue as president of Basch Subscriptions and will join the management team of Prenax Global. Basch cited the commonality of focus and service orientation as key to the decision to join forces with Prenax. Basch plans to use the international span and the size of Prenax to broaden and strengthen service options for its customers. The merger gives Prenax the opportunity to expand its base in the U.S.

The Prenax Group is a global B2B subscription-management company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Founded in 1991, Prenax maintains operations in Sweden, the U.S. (New York, Boston, San Francisco), the U.K., and France. Prenax, Inc. has 16 employees, while Prenax Global has more than 80.

Basch Subscriptions, based in Concord, N.H., is a subscription-management company founded in 1995. Basch serves the government, medical, and corporate markets and academic, public, and school libraries. Basch has 25 employees.
