Intelliseek Enhances BullsEye 2 Pro
Intelliseek (http://www.intelliseek.com) has announced the availability of BullsEye 2 Pro, version 2.5, its client search software. According to the company, this updated version adds significant usability features, international and natural language searching, and back-end technology improvements to the award-winning intelligent agent technology of the BullsEye products, giving researchers and business users the ability to quickly find, mine, and track targeted and relevant Web content.
BullsEye 2 Pro provides users with a client-based application that allows them to utilize Web information as they would documents on their personal computers and intranets. Users can also collaborate with co-workers and automatically keep track and be notified of changes on the Web. Additionally, researchers can annotate, save, or share results; generate cumulative reports; and automatically use advanced linguistic analysis and filtering, or set their own filters to control search results.
The new version provides an International Search Area, with over 70 engines, which now allows searching in Spanish, French, German, and Russian. Mixed language results can be displayed either separately or integrated. Natural language query capabilities allow users to quickly ask a question and get an answer. The software offers wide Web coverage with over 800 search engines and databases, including 108 shopping and 161 news sources.
Intelliseek BullsEye 2 Pro is available for a 30-day, fully functional trial download at http://info.intelliseek.com/prod/bullseye_pro.htm. Purchase price is $249 for one license. Pricing includes 1 full year of unlimited support and upgrades—multiple copy discounts are available. Partners can co-brand BullsEye 2 Pro for distribution to their end-users.
LEXIS Acquires Mealey Publications, Inc.
LEXIS, a unit of Reed Elsevier, Inc., has acquired Mealey Publications, Inc., a niche publisher of legal newsletters targeted at attorneys and other professionals in the areas of litigation and arbitration. The company also produces 30 annual conferences on hot litigation topics, such as toxic torts, environmental insurance, construction defects, tobacco, and asbestos.
"Mealey's helps attorneys, corporations, and insurance carriers keep up with breaking news and fast-changing areas of law, where established legal precedent is being challenged," said LEXIS president and CEO Lou Andreozzi. "News and current-awareness materials are highly desired by legal professionals, and Mealey's publications and conferences help them stay abreast of breaking news, new developments in the law, pending government legislation, and litigation trends."
"While we license Mealey's publications and make them available through LEXIS today, this acquisition will allow us to truly integrate Mealey's content into our robust portfolio of legal research materials. For instance, through lexis.com, we can provide links to full text of cases, legislation, and news sources to efficiently give attorneys a more complete subject view via a single gateway. Mealey's content will also further strengthen a number of our lexis.com practice pages, which offer a customized practice approach for specialized areas of law," Andreozzi added.
The company plans to continue Mealey's tradition of developing new titles on emerging areas of law and to use LEXIS' electronic distribution channels to reach more legal professionals with the premium Mealey's content. LEXIS also plans to continue to expand the conference business to meet plaintiffs' and defense attorneys' demands for expert opinion and industry discussion on fast-changing and new areas of law.
ISI, Ex Libris Announce Integration Agreement for Linking
ISI, a Thomson Scientific Co. (http://www.isinet.com), and Ex Libris (http://www.exlibris-usa.com) have announced plans to integrate the ISI Web of Science with Ex Libris SFX linking technology by late fall 2000. By combining the ISI Web-based Citation Databases and the context-sensitive reference linking technology from Ex Libris, mutual subscribers will have expanded options for linking resources and services, regardless of where the resources are hosted.
Leslie Singer, ISI's president and COO, said: "The SFX solution offers librarians the choice of accessing appropriate content from a range of information sources and a means to connect those in a manner of their choosing. This will give librarians the power to provide information solutions tailored to their respective organizations and deliver those solutions to the desktop. At ISI our mission is to continuously expand the reach of the Web of Science. Users can now link to scholarly full-text articles, patents, proceedings, chemical information, and NCBI databases. By integrating Ex Libris' SFX technology, we have continued to enable our customers to navigate to all information sources they deem relevant."
SFX (http://www.sfxit.com) is a system that dynamically interlinks numerous and diverse electronic resources and can be used in a wide range of digital libraries. SFX is based on the research work about the reference-linking problem undertaken by Herbert Van de Sompel at the University of Ghent in Belgium and the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the U.S.. It has been applied in the complex digital library environments of both institutions.

Merriam-Webster, Inc.
