Northern Light Adds Reports from the Economist Intelligence Unit
Northern Light Technology, Inc. has announced the inclusion of over 180 research reports from the prestigious Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU; http://www.eiu.com), which expands the international content available in the Northern Light Special Collection, its online business library of journals, periodicals, and research reports. EIU research is available on Northern Light's enterprise site, NLResearch.com (http://www.nlresearch.com), as well as at NorthernLight.com (http://www.northernlight.com).
NLResearch.com includes a specialized search form for EIU, allowing searchers to select specific reports by county, region, and industry as well as specify searching of full reports or specific pages within a report (http://nlresearch.northernlight.com/eiu_research.html). NorthernLight.com includes check boxes for both EIU and The Economist content on the Business Search form, allowing users to limit searches to either or both of them. EIU content will be sold directly on Northern Light on a per-document basis and to enterprise clients in various flat-fee arrangements.
The EIU joins the more than 7,100 journals, periodicals, and research reports that make up the Northern Light Special Collection. The EIU is the business-to-business arm of The Economist Group (http://www.economistgroup.com), publisher of The Economist (http://www.economist.com). According to the announcement, it produces objective and timely analysis and forecasts of the political, economic, and business environment in more than 180 countries.

Moreover and Autonomy Announce Partnership
Moreover (http://www.moreover.com) and Autonomy (http://www.autonomy.com) have announced a partnership aimed at bringing breaking news to enterprise portals. As part of the agreement, Autonomy's Portal-in-a-Box will provide access to Moreover's dynamic Web news database. Integration has been completed for select Autonomy Portal-in-a-Box customers, and Moreover-indexed headlines will be generally available by early in the second quarter of this year. The partnership provides Moreover with an additional channel into the enterprise, while enabling Autonomy to take full advantage of the benefits of a clean and structured Web news database.
Autonomy CEO Mike Lynch said: "I can think of no easier way to turn an enterprise portal into a powerful competitive intelligence resource than to incorporate Moreover's award-winning news engine and database. By partnering with Moreover to provide relevant online news while it is still fresh, our customers will be able to stay on top of industry developments, monitor and outmaneuver the competition, and hopefully save time and money on online research."
Moreover was recently named "Best Specialty Search Engine" by SearchEngineWatch for its ability to track thousands of rapidly changing online news sources. Other companies that license Moreover's technology include Inktomi, Microsoft, Epicentric, PeopleSoft, and Plumtree.
Autonomy provides text classification and retrieval technology for business applications. Among Autonomy's 425-plus customers are Associated Press, BBC, Reed Elsevier, News Corp., SF Gate, and Reuters. In addition, many software companies license Autonomy's technology to add intelligence to their own products, in areas as diverse as online publishing, knowledge management, e-mail routing, and document management.
Simmons College to Launch Competitive Intelligence Graduate Program
Boston-based Simmons College (http://www.simmons.edu) has announced that it's establishing a master's degree program in competitive intelligence, claiming that it will be the first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. Beginning in May, Simmons' Competitive Intelligence Center (CIC) will offer courses to working professionals that can lead to a master's degree or post-master's certificate in competitive intelligence, as well as professional development courses. Course selection will be tailored to each applicant's career objectives.
The curriculum, based on survey results from more than 200 members of the international Society for Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP; http://www.scip.org), is being offered in an end-of-week format convenient for working practitioners to travel to Boston for intensive, personalized in-class training. Courses will be offered from Thursdays at noon through Saturdays at 5 p.m. The interdisciplinary program, which is under the aegis of the Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science, will draw faculty from Simmons' graduate schools, faculty from other colleges and universities, and members of SCIP. After March 1, information will be available at the CIC Web site at http://cic.simmons.edu.
