Hoover’s Adds International Company Coverage from Mergent
Hoover's, Inc. and its London-based subsidiary, Hoover's Online Europe, Ltd., have announced they are expanding international company coverage on the organization's six business research Web sites. Through an agreement with Mergent, formerly part of Moody's Investors Service and a leading provider of global business and financial information on publicly traded companies, Hoover's users can find the expanded coverage on Hoover's Online (http://www.hoovers.com); Hoover's Online UK (http://www.hoovers.co.uk); and the company's local-language sites in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
As part of the agreement, Hoover's is integrating into its Web sites Mergent's company information on nearly 9,000 non-U.S. publicly traded companies. Hoover's users can now access Mergent content, including company descriptions, contact information, officer and subsidiary lists, and 3 years of financials. Mergent information is being added to both the free and subscription areas of Hoover's Web sites.
Hoover's CEO Patrick Spain said, "While Hoover's already covers more than 4,600 companies outside the U.S., this agreement allows us to quickly expand our coverage to more than 90 percent of the non-U.S. global market capitalization, meeting customer demand for more information on companies around the world."

Factiva Launches Content Community for Publishers
Factiva has announced the launch of Content Community (http://www.factiva.com/contentcomm), a new portal dedicated to the providers of Factiva's collection of news and business information. Members of the Content Community portal include representatives from more than 8,000 sources spanning approximately 75 countries around the world. Through the portal, publishers can access regular news and industry updates about new trends and technology, as well as information on products and services that can facilitate electronic delivery of content to various markets. In addition, the portal provides case studies of publishers that have forged content relationships with Factiva, and tools for information providers to update source information and submit content-amendment requests.
"The Content Community portal furthers Factiva's strategy to build communities that facilitate better and more efficient communication and relationships with our partners and major audiences," said Clare Hart, Factiva's president and CEO. "With a myriad of different delivery options for publishers, the Content Community portal meets the needs of Factiva's content providers, giving them access to the information and tools they need to maximize the value of their content-distribution and licensing arrangements."

Broadbent, director of corporate licensing at The McGraw-Hill Companies. "The Content Community portal gives The McGraw-Hill Companies several innovative tools that allow us to monitor our content relationship with Factiva quickly and easily."
A secure, password-protected area of the Content Community portal will be added later this year that will allow information providers to track content quality and delivery statistics for more than 60,000 articles flowing into Factiva's content collection each day, access their royalty and usage information, and allow members to talk to one another about their experiences.
Innodata to Create XML Archives for ProQuest Historical Newspapers Project
Innodata Corp. (http://www.innodata.com) has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Bell & Howell to provide XML digital-content services for its ProQuest Historical Newspapers project (http://www.bellhowell.infolearning.com). The project, which was announced in January, is creating an XML-based digital historical archive of full runs of national, regional, and local newspapers, beginning with U.S. papers and eventually including ones published in other countries. The agreement allows Innodata to supply the XML-conversion and digital-content services required for ProQuest Historical Newspapers. Three prominent national newspapers have already joined the project: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Christian Science Monitor. Innodata will provide the services through its XML Content Factory, creating an XML-based repository of newspaper content that the companies say will support a level of functionality not present in current online newspaper products. In addition, Innodata expects to offer a host of additional services to the individual newspapers.
Jack S. Abuhoff, Innodata's president and CEO, said: "This is why we built the XML Content Factory—to be the key enabling agent for large-scale XML initiatives such as this. We have already begun an aggressive production schedule at the XML Content Factory, where we have integrated a combination of best-of-breed and proprietary tools specifically designed to meet the unique challenges that newspapers present."
