Factiva Select Delivers Filtered XML Content

Factiva ( has announced the launch of Factiva Select, a flexible product available through Factiva Integration, a suite of tools that can be used to integrate Factiva's news and business information into intranets, portals, and mobile devices. Factiva Select is a filtered XML content feed that allows enterprise customers to readily integrate Factiva's global content into any number of end-user applications or computing environments. In addition, customers can commingle up to 90 days of Factiva content with third-party and internal content to build a searchable, universally indexed content collection.

Susan Feldman, director of document and content technologies at IDC, said: "By collecting and organizing disparate systems into a seamless interface, enterprises can save research time with the ability to launch a single search that reaches all information repositories and make critical decisions based on all the data available to them. In addition, XML-tagged content can be delivered to the appropriate user in any format to suit any device being used for access, whether it is the desktop or even a wireless device."

Factiva Consulting, a team of technical and editorial experts, is available on a contract basis to customers who prefer custom implementations of Factiva products, including Factiva Select.

New dtSearch Product Line Released

dtSearch Corp. ( now shipping the dtSearch text-search-and-retrieval end-user and developerproduct line, version 6.0. This new release adds distributed searchingand other features to improve access to information throughout an organization.The new features also expand the functionality of the dtSearch developercomponent for use with a wide variety of programming languages.

dtSearch products offerinstant-indexed (and slower un-indexed) searching of large document collections,such as word processors, databases, spreadsheets, e-mail, ZIP, XML, andmore. Over 2 dozen full-text search options are offered, and all productsdisplay retrieved files with highlighted hits, along with (for HTML andAdobe PDF) embedded images and links.

FindPlus distributed searchingis a new integrated feature of dtSearch Desktop, dtSearch Web, and dtSearchNetwork that allows a single search request to span everything from localdrives to remote servers. Operating through a single user interface, FindPlusenables indexed searching of files and other data throughout an organization,without the need to collect the data in a monolithic repository. BecauseFindPlus uses an XML-based protocol for exchanging and aggregating searchinformation, developers using the dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine can alsoeasily incorporate this capability into their own applications.

The new release also includesa new dtSearch Spider. The spider provides a way to use other organizations'Web sites as instantly searchable document resources. All dtSearch productsinclude a complimentary copy of the Web spider.

Pricing is $199 for dtSearchDesktop, $999 per server for dtSearch Web and the dtSearch Text RetrievalEngine (with royalty-free options also available), and starts at $800 fordtSearch Network. Fully functional evaluation copies are available uponrequest.

ChemWeb, Inc. has announced a number of recent additions to the content available on, its service that delivers information resources for chemical research and communication via the Web to over 250,000 members worldwide. The newly added databases and journals are available free of charge for a limited trial period.

ISI's Reaction Citation Index is now available for free until May 1. The Reaction Citation Index combines searchable structures and reaction data from Current Chemical Reactions with bibliographic data and author abstracts from the Science Citation Index. It covers newly registered world patents and leading international organic chemistry journals from 1980 to the present, providing access to more than 400,000 reactions since 1985 and over 2 million references to date.

Several of Advanced Chemistry Development, Inc.'s Physio-chemical & NMR Spectral Databases are also now available. The fully searchable databases include pKa, LogP, HNMR, CNMR, FNMR DB Stats, and PNMR.

A number of Elsevier Science's journals are new to and include some fuel chemistry, biochemistry, and polymer titles; the Chemical Engineering Journal (free until August 1); and Calphad-The International Journal for Calculation of Phase Diagrams (free until June 1).
