TheScientificWorld, Inc. Announces Upgrades to Its Site
TheScientificWorld, Inc., an emerging company delivering research information to the scientific community, has announced new features to its commercial Web site (http://www.thescientificworld.com) that offer integrated access to scientific information, resources, and tools designed to enhance scientific and medical research. The upgraded site now provides new content, additional linking and search capabilities, and enhanced design and navigation.
sciBASE, TheScientificWorld's core scientific information-retrieval service, offers free online access to scientific bibliographic information dating back to 1965 and allows the purchase of individual articles online. The 19 million document records from over 30,000 journals now covered by sciBASE include more than 200,000 additional abstract records dating back to 1984 that have been derived from the life science database PASCAL. As a further enhancement, sciBASE search results now incorporate author links, which enable sciBASE users to rapidly find other publications by the same author.
TheScientificWorldJOURNAL, the company's online publication for scientific research, plans to publish peer-reviewed articles from over 200 fields in life and environmental sciences. TheScientificWorldJOURNAL is now searchable as part of sciBASE for the easy location and purchase of published articles. All literature citations in works published in TheScientificWorldJOURNAL are now linked to the original literature via sciBASE for ease of location, abstract viewing (where available), and, if required, online purchase. Articles published in TheScientificWorldJOURNAL are targeted to other interested scientists through the company's free alerting service.
In addition, TheScientificWorld's newsLAB has been enhanced with over 200 news categories to allow users to create a personalized news page of scientific and world events. newsLAB now also includes a Corporate Lookup tool to locate information on publicly traded companies (i.e., company profiles, stock prices, SEC filings, and comparative competitor information).

ebrary, Learning Network Launch Public Beta Version of ebrarian
ebrary (http://www.ebrary.com), a provider of software and services for the online delivery of copyrighted content, and Learning Network (http://www.learningnetwork.com), part of Pearson, PLC, have launched the first public beta version of ebrarian, ebrary's new e-content solution for partners and customers. The co-branded site is available at http://learningnetwork.ebrary.com.
Learning Network has implemented the ebrarian solution to securely deliver high-value business and economics titles to its communities of students, consumers, and professionals. Access is provided through Learning Network's Infoplease reference site (http://www.infoplease.com). Using a model similar to photocopying, Learning Network visitors pay only to print or copy the information they need. Searching and browsing are free, and there are no membership or subscription fees. Learning Network has also customized ebrary's InfoTools to link users to relevant information on the Infoplease site. With InfoTools, any word or phrase selected by the user can link to research materials—including articles, definitions, biographical information, statistics, and more—on the Infoplease site.
ebrary partners with publishers and academic presses to develop online collections in major vertical subject areas. ebrarian includes ebrary InfoTools, which provide advanced e-commerce, research, comprehension, and navigation capabilities at the word level. ebrarian is available now to customers and partners in the U.S. and U.K. Pricing varies according to organizations' individual requirements, including customization and hosting services. ebrary is privately held and is funded by Random House Ventures, LLC; Pearson, PLC; and McGraw-Hill.
COMTEX Launches Toolkit for News Solutions Product Line
COMTEX News Network, Inc. (http://www.comtexnews.net) has launched NewsDesk, an editor's toolkit application available as part of the News Solutions product line. NewsDesk is an application created to enhance the customer's ability to perform specialized filtering, targeting, customization, and delivery of content. According to the announcement, NewsDesk puts the controls in the hands of the COMTEX customer.
The NewsDesk application offers News Solutions users the following enhanced options:
