ebrary Enters Agreements with Elsevier Science, Princeton University Press

ebrary (, a provider of information distribution and retrieval services, has announced that Elsevier Science's Science & Technology Division ( and Princeton University Press ( have agreed to make their book titles available through ebrary's multiple online channels, which include libraries, institutions, and other online organizations.

"We see this agreement with ebrary as part of a very proactive strategy for our customers to use our products," said Philip Shaw, managing director of the Book Publishing Group at Elsevier Science's Science & Technology Division. "We've been eager to create broader access to our titles while maintaining control over them. ebrary opens the channel to a large, professional customer base and still allows publishers to operate in a flexible, secure way."

Blackwell Publishing Announces New Version of Blackwell Synergy

Blackwell Publishing ( has announced the launch of a new version of Blackwell Synergy (, its online journals service. The site has a new design and improved navigation so readers can better locate journals in their subject area and link between related articles. Blackwell Synergy currently holds 368 of Blackwell Publishing's science, medicine, technology, psychology, and economics journals. During the rest of this year, a further 250 humanities and social science journals will be added to the service, which is a source for highly cited peer-reviewed journals published on behalf of academic and professional societies.

A new QuickSearch feature enables readers to search for keywords within one journal, all journals on Blackwell Synergy, and journals from other publishers. For example, a reader of a Blackwell article can find other abstracts on the same topic in PubMed (MEDLINE) within just two clicks and without having to leave the original article. The article reference lists now include dynamically updated CrossRef and external database links. My Synergy is a new area in which registered users can administer their subscriptions, add favorite journals and articles, and set up their e-mail table-of-contents alerts.

The new version of Blackwell Synergy was developed in collaboration with technology partner Atypon Systems ( During its 4-year agreement with Blackwell Publishing, Atypon has been responsible for Blackwell Synergy's content management, hosting, managed services, software support, and security.

Inmagic Releases DB/TextWorks 5.2

Inmagic, Inc. (, a developer of knowledge management and special library management software, has announced the release of DB/TextWorks version 5.2, which includes the DB/Text WebPublisher and WebPublisher Lite Web publishing components. Version 5.2 now features record-level security, support for XML, and other enhancements.

DB/TextWorks 5.2 lets Inmagic databases import XML file formats in addition to those that are ASCII-delimited and Inmagic-tagged. XML is an emerging standard for sharing data between applications. Because XML files support information tagging similar to HTML files, information can be manipulated in very flexible ways. DB/TextWorks 5.2 is available to those who have enrolled in the InmagicADVANTAGE maintenance program.
