FAST Unveils FAST Data Search 3.0
Fast Search & Transfer (FAST; http://www.fastsearch.com), a developer of search and real-time filter technologies, has announced the launch of FAST Data Search 3.0, an upgrade to its search solution for enterprise environments. The FAST Data Search 3.0 integrated product suite combines real-time search, a real-time filter/alert engine for dynamic information, advanced linguistics, a variety of content-access options, new product modularity, and easily accessible application program interfaces (APIs) for integration into enterprise environments.
According to the announcement, the new search tool is "scalable to any amount of users, any amount of data, and across any time frame" and provides "intelligent linguistic and categorization technologies within a real-time architecture, with sub-second response for use in enterprise environments." The FAST search technologies can be previewed and tested at AllTheWeb.com.
FAST Data Search now offers support for over 49 languages and handles grammatical variations of the language, natural language queries, and misspelling of queries. Content-handling options include automatic categorization and dynamic result clustering. A newly developed virtual collection concept, combined with advanced and customizable document processing and query/result processing modules, makes it possible to configure on a per-collection basis and enable customizable relevancy tuning for different sources or partitions of the information.
"With the new release of FAST Data Search, I see an excellent choice for those needing a high-end, scalable search engine," said Avi Rappoport, principal of Search Tools Consulting. "FAST includes real-time indexing, a modular and scalable architecture, and integration with Web standards, including XML and SOAP. The linguistic analysis, query processing, and distribution-quality-assessment functions are innovative and powerful. This solution can increase revenues for e-commerce companies and improve search functionality on public Web sites and intranets."

Inmagic Announces Product Upgrades
Inmagic, Inc. (http://www.inmagic.com), a provider of content and information management software and services, has announced the release of DB/TextWorks version 6.0. The company also announced the launch of BiblioTech PRO 2.4, its enterprisewide integrated library system.
DB/TextWorks is a combination of database and text-retrieval software that enables users to build networked and stand-alone textbases to manage diverse types of information, including text, images, and multimedia. DB/TextWorks 6.0 allows users to employ a thesaurus as a validation list, which in turn lets them share a substitution list across fields or textbases. This ensures consistency in data entry as well as in searching.
In conjunction with the release of DB/TextWorks 6.0, Inmagic will deliver updates of both DB/Text PowerPack 6.0 and DB/Text ODBC Driver 3.0. DB/Text PowerPack 6.0 will support record-level security, which will protect the integrity of data as it's collected, populated, and maintained in the user's textbase. DB/Text ODBC Driver 3.0 will add scrollable cursors, nested sub-selects, connection pooling, left outer joins, and a BETWEEN operator. Other DB/TextWorks 6.0 features include a bar-code generator application and the ability to receive search results in XML format and to submit a canned query.
BiblioTech PRO 2.4 features customizable keyword, multi-field, and document/report number search windows, with an option to add all or selected citations to new or pre-existing bibliographies.
