Barron’s Launches Digital Delivery in Partnership with NewsStand, Inc.

Barron's, the Dow Jones business and financial weekly, has launched its Digital Delivery product in partnership with NewsStand, Inc., an Austin, Texas-based electronic publishing technology provider. As a result, Barron's will be delivering exact digital replicas of the traditional paper editions to its customers' PCs via the Internet every Saturday morning. Digital reading tools include keyword searches for quick research, direct jumps to desired sections or page continuations with one click of the mouse, and easy scan of two-page spreads with a "zoom in" feature for articles of interest.

As part of the agreement, Barron's will provide paid digital subscriptions and single-copy purchases. A special promotion is now offering the first 2 months for $5.99 per month and $11.99 per month thereafter. The single-copy price is $3.50 per issue. Customers can purchase the digital publication at http://www.barronsmag.com/bdd or through NewsStand's Web site (http://www.newsstand.com).

"NewsStand's ability to deliver to a reader's PC every chart, article, and picture in Barron's becomes a valuable benefit to its customers," said Kit Webster, president and CEO of NewsStand. "Timely and reliable delivery of our digital edition also opens up a vast international market for financial communities who have not had access to Barron's printed publication."

Other publications that have already selected NewsStand as their digital circulation service include The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Harvard Business Review, The Daily Deal, The Australian, and The Globe and Mail.

True Query Announces Upgraded Service

True Query, Inc. (http://www.truequery.net) has released version 1.5 of its subscription service for technology and information professionals. According to the announcement, version 1.5 includes significantly upgraded advanced search features, allowing even novice users to harness the power of the full-text search engine. True Query has also added several new publishers. New technology industry sources offered in the publication collection include M2 Communications, Technology Research News, Info-Tech Research Group, and University Wire. Any user can now take advantage of True Query's "fuzzy search" feature. "Wildcard search" and searching within fields, such as publication name, author's name, words in the title of the document, and publication date, are all accessible through the advanced search features in the new version. Commercially available since April, True Query provides reliable and trusted content on information technology and telecommunications topics. True Query users have access to tens of thousands of current and archived articles and a comprehensive technology glossary. The company offers various types of subscriptions to accommodate the needs of commercial, academic, and government organizations. Single-user, annual subscriptions start at $1,190.

True Query also announced it has now completed the acquisition of intellectual property from Shaman Corp. This package includes all the assets of ComputerSelectWeb. In addition to proprietary software, branding elements, and marketing databases, True Query now owns the technology product and vendor database that was made popular under the brand DataSources and that's now published on the Internet under ComputerSelectWeb and eShaman.

Nstein Provides Taxonomy Builder for ASP Licensing

Nstein Technologies, Inc. (http://www.nstein.com), a provider of software solutions to the e-publishing industry, has announced a software licensing sale that will allow small and medium-sized e-publishing enterprises to automatically index documents using Nstein's Computer-Aided Indexing (CAI) tools. MEI, a California company that provides services and software development to publishers, has purchased a software license for Nstein's Nserver Suite and Taxonomy Builder, a new product that MEI will use to custom-build taxonomies for its customer base. Taxonomy Builder is available to other third-party service providers in the e-publishing industry, as well as to Nstein's customers and prospects in the e-publishing, government, and corporate spaces.

"This agreement will expose our high-performance, automated indexing tools to e-publishers that to date have not had the document volumes to justify purchasing their own licenses," said Randall Marcinko, president of Nstein. "Through an ASP (application service provider) like MEI, smaller e-publishers can now receive the high-quality, high-precision indexing that in the past were only available to larger organizations. This lets customers use Computer-Aided Indexing within a ‘pay-as-you-go' business model, removing the barrier of initial capital expenditures, and allowing Nstein to serve the entire spectrum of e-publishers."

Marcinko was the founder and former owner of Marcinko Enterprises, Inc., now known as MEI. The company was sold to former partner and now president Bob Nelson.
