IDC Launches Intelligence Service for Online Content Market

IDC, a research and advisory firm, announced that it has launched Online Content Market: Technologies and Strategies, a new Continuous Intelligence Service (CIS) that's designed to help online content buyers and providers understand the changes the market will undergo over the next several years. IDC estimates that aggregate spending worldwide for online content will surpass $50 billion this year and is expected to exceed $108 billion in 2006. Sue Feldman, IDC's research vice president for content management and retrieval technologies, said that as this market evolves and matures, it will look "significantly different than it did just a few years ago."

The new service will analyze the market from several perspectives, including content types, technologies, services, and providers. It will also utilize primary research on user demand and in-depth technology assessments. Topics to be covered include buying intentions and brand awareness of online content buyers; trends in pricing and delivery methods; content management, access, and delivery technologies; XML content technologies; and digital rights management for online content.

In addition, IDC will examine the strategies, market position, and future direction of major vendors and service providers in the online content market. A series of advisory workshops on XML, partnering strategies, usability, and other online content-related issues will also be offered as part of the CIS.

Dialog Enhances DialogPRO Service

Dialog Corp. has announced that an expanded roster of content channels is now available through its DialogPRO small-business product. The updated version of the Web-based service also features additional options for flat-fee subscriptions.

The new content channels offered through DialogPRO are biotech, competitive intelligence, consulting, and defense. Two other content channels—advertising and news—were included with the initial release of DialogPRO in February. Subscribers can select a content channel that best meets their information needs, with sources pre-packaged for each channel.

Three subscription tiers—Primary, Plus, and Premier—are available within each content channel. These tiers vary by the number and type of information sources available. The Premier package also features content from NewsEdge. It includes industry and market news that's relevant to the chosen content channel, as well as major breaking international and regionalized news. On a transactional basis, DialogPRO subscribers may search for and then retrieve articles and reports from information sources that are not included in their subscription tier.
