ScienceDirect to Offer PsycARTICLES

The American Psychological Association (APA) has reached an agreement with Elsevier Science to distribute its PsycARTICLES full-text journal database via the ScienceDirect platform. PsycARTICLES is a database of 43 full-text psychology journals published by APA and affiliated publishers. By licensing PsycARTICLES on ScienceDirect, APA offers institutions access to almost 30,000 articles published by the APA, the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe & Huber.

PsycARTICLES will be available alongside PsycINFO, APA's abstracts database of psychological literature, which was made available on ScienceDirect in 2001. The integration of PsycARTICLES and PsycINFO alongside the extensive Elsevier Science journal collections, subject collections, and backfile collections makes much of the world's psychology research literature available to researchers via the ScienceDirect platform.

Inxight Acquires WhizBang! Labs

Inxight Software, Inc. announced that it has acquired the technology assets of WhizBang! Labs, Inc. of Provo, Utah. This strategic acquisition, the first following the company's recent $22 million investment round, extends the company's text analysis, classification, and retrieval capabilities.

In 2003, Inxight will incorporate the WhizBang! Labs fact-extraction technology into Inxight SmartDiscovery, the company's solution for automating the discovery and retrieval of unstructured text data. Inxight will also evaluate software-licensing opportunities for the WhizBang! Labs technology.

Inxight also announced an agreement with Intelliseek, a developer of smart-search technology and applications, in which Intelliseek will license WhizBang! Labs technology from Inxight to provide advanced information extraction services to its customers.

In May 2002, WhizBang! ceased operations but did not declare bankruptcy. Bob Sherwin, its president and CEO, retained the company's intellectual property and sought a buyer. WhizBang! Labs was founded in 1999 by Sherwin, Berkeley Geddes, and Dallan Quass. It is known for its first product, FlipDog, which was sold to Monster.com.
