BrandDefense Offers Intellectual Property Protection Services

BrandDefense, a company founded in May 2002 and based in San Antonio, Texas, has announced its entrance into the intellectual property protection market. BrandDefense specializes in managing the process to copyright Web site content, locating unauthorized use of a company's assets online, and automatically generating notifications to have the infringements removed.

BrandDefense protects a variety of copyrighted and trademarked information—including names, slogans, images, marketing documents, and more. In addition, the company protects domain names and looks for instances of typosquatting (registering a similar domain name with a slight misspelling to get traffic), cybersquatting (registering a company name with the intent of selling it to its rightful owner), company slander, and information spread by disgruntled employees

As a subscription-based service, BrandDefense searches for infringements continuously, generating Red Flag Reports monthly, weekly, or even daily, depending on the needs of the client. All results are also hand-filtered by BrandDefense Examiners, to provide clients with only the most relevant matches.

Information Today, Inc. Acquires Streaming Media, Inc.

Information Today, Inc. (ITI) announced that it has completed the acquisition of Streaming Media, Inc. from Penton Media, Inc., a Cleveland-based publisher and tradeshow company.

Streaming Media, Inc. produces conferences and exhibitions in the streaming media field and also hosts the Web site and e-mail newsletter. In addition, Streaming Media publishes a series of in-depth reports on various aspects of streaming media technology and applications. The first Streaming Media conference and exhibition was held in San Francisco in 1998, and over 10 such events have been held since then.

The Web site, e-mail newsletter, and other related products will be produced and directed by Adam Pemberton, publisher of ITI's EMedia magazine and EMedia Xtra e-mail newsletter. Future Streaming Media conferences and other live events will fall under the direction of Dick Kaser, ITI's vice president of content.

ITI is the publisher of information and knowledge management titles, such as Information Today, Searcher, ONLINE, Computers in Libraries, EContent, CRM, and KMWorld, as well as the organizer of conferences and exhibitions, such as InfoToday, KMWorld & Intranets, Internet Librarian, and Computers in Libraries.

Ask Jeeves Eliminates Banner Ads

Ask Jeeves Web Properties, a division of Ask Jeeves, Inc., has announced the removal of all banner advertisements from Ask Jeeves (, claimed to be the Web's second most popular search engine. According to the announcement, this move reflects the company's continuing commitment to delivering a highly targeted environment for its clients and a user-friendly search experience for consumers. Ask Jeeves also recently eliminated interstitials, commonly known as pop-up advertisements, from its suite of advertising products.

Ask Jeeves now focuses on its core offerings including Branded Response and Premier Listings. Branded Response provides marketers an opportunity to reach a targeted audience on Ask Jeeves' results page while generating brand awareness through use of graphics and images. Premier Listings are keyword targeted, text-based advertising units that appear at the top of Ask Jeeves' results page. Available across the Ask Jeeves Keyword Network, Premier Listings are a guaranteed way for marketers to get their message included within Ask Jeeves' results.
